We are back!

Well after a week of craziness, including but not limited to, Dr.'s appointments, visits with grandparents, and an art show we are back!

Earlier we did this activity with the older two. It was the octagon weight worksheet.
Since we were going to be making an octagon with our spielgaben set we decided to read about exercise. We read these two books.
The two girls really got into these books. The book, You Are a LION! , was one of our favorites and have read it many times since. It is different yoga poses that have you guessing which animal or thing you are being. It was super fun.
Then we did some exercises. Here is Roo stretching.

Then we just ran around like crazy and tried to "exercise".

On top of the mountain.

Next we came back to our spielgaben set and made our octagon weights. Roo exercised with it as well.

Doodle broke our weight. We said she was so strong she broke a weight! Really I should have taped it better but ya know! A little side note we did team work on the weight because they were both doing it we would have run out of the prisms. I think it is good for them to work together on a project. It teaches not only teamwork but also to share. I think sometimes homeschoolers miss our on teamwork activities so I was happy to include this.

KK's lesson today was on the letter Cc!
So obviously we are not fancy with our letter cards. I just wrote out the letters on these 3x5 cards and have used them for all the kids thus far. I think they work just fine.

Here we made a C with spielgaben. This activity is good for those with kinesthetic learners. Hands on! We like to mix it up with a variety of activities. Even if they are better at auditory learning its good to give them a variety of ways to learn the things at hand.

We do have these alphabet cards on the wall for when we sing our ABC's daily. These are from Veritas Press. On the first day of letter introduction I have her pick out the letter on the wall. We usually talk about the animal or thing on the card. Cc was for cow. I really do like these cards because they display real art work. We didn't love the phonics museum from Veritas Press for teaching reading, but that was just us.

I know I know not an artist here. ;-) I made her bubble Cc's to color but she loves to trace them. She is almost 3 so I am not concerned with handwriting but if she wants to trace by all means I will not stop it. Again though this is not the goal of the activity, its the learning of the name and sound of the letter. Many reading programs will combine reading and writing. If you start your kids young in learning the alphabet they will not have the skills to write yet which can be hard. So for us its the Ordinary Parents Guide to Reading.

KK and Buddy both did the chestnut tree activity sheet from the spielgaben pack 1. The objective here for us was to talk about trees. We hit a small amount on thrones or spikes (toothpicks). This was the tree I made out of cardboard.

Buddy making his with spikes (toothpicks).

I orginally wanted them to use the cotton balls with tails and pull them through but they both had the idea of using toothpicks to add the cotton balls to the tree, so we went with it.

Buddy putting two balls together.

There was a lot of free play with this one as well.

Here are the books we read. I Love Trees  was their favorite!

KK stringing them through eventually.

Doodle got in on the action...this is two cotton balls with rings in between, held together with the toothpick. I love just letting their creativity flow and how this really helps all us play and enjoy learning together.
After KK's tree was finished she stood up with it and made it dance while I sang tree songs to the tune of I'm a little teapot. I made one up for each one of the four seasons. Silly, but KK LOVED it, and kept asking for more.

Doodle used the toothpicks to match up cubes and cylinders to the different colored balls.

Here was just a station Doodle set up of things to buy...rings for our fingers or balls that we could spin. hehe

At the beginning I mentioned that part of play was cleaning up - as stated in the spielgaben worksheets. They really have stuck to this, which I of course LOVE! ;-)
Happy Playing Friends.
